Road and Railway Traffic Noise Exposure (Façade Points)
The dataset contains the calculated noise exposure from road and railway traffic at approximately 36 million façade points in Switzerland for the year 2021. The façade points (3D points) include the equivalent continuous sound levels (Leq) for various assessment periods (day, evening, night, Day-Evening-Night, Day-Night), as well as the rating sound levels (Lr) pursuant to the Noise Abatement Ordinance (NAO) for day and night. For road traffic, partial levels broken down by road owner (municipality, canton, national road) were additionally calculated. The façade points are uniquely assigned to buildings via identifiers (Federal Building Identifier EGID) and, as 3D points, enable floor-specific statements about noise exposure.
The data are based on the nationwide noise calculation model sonBASE 2021 of the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN). For road traffic, the calculations draw on traffic figures from the National Passenger Transport Model (NPTM 2021), and for railway traffic on the Emission Cadastre 2021 (EC 2021). The data are intended exclusively for statistical information at national and regional level and are not legally binding. Binding information on noise exposure and noise abatement is provided by the respective enforcement authorities: for national roads by the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO), for main and other roads by the cantonal enforcement authorities, and for railway traffic by the Federal Office of Transport (FOT).
