Gewässerräume sichern den notwendigen Raumbedarf oberirdischer Gewässer für die Erfüllung der natürlichen Gewässerfunktionen, den Hochwasserschutz und die Gewässernutzung. Die Festlegung der grundeigentümerverbindlichen Gewässerräume erfolgt im Kanton Thurgau im Rahmen der Sondernutzungsplanung in Form von Gewässerraumlinien.
