SilvaProtect-CH (hazard information at national level): Debris flow
Debris flows are slow to fast-flowing mixtures of water and solids with a high proportion of solids (ca. 30% to 60%). Debris flows often move in several pulses and arise in mountain torrent channels and on steep talus slopes. They pose a major risk to settlement areas. This layer contains a general hazard index map of potential debris-flow areas based on the modelling of the debris flow process carried out by the SilvaProtect-CH project. The modelling of the debris flow processes does not take the affect of forests into account.
