Natur- und Landschaftsschutzgebiete sind wichtige Lebensräume für bedrohte Pflanzen und Tiere. Mit kantonalen Schutzverordnungen werden diese eigentümerverbindlich unter Schutz gestellt und die zulässige Nutzung geregelt.Die kantonalen Schutzverordnungen wurden auf Grund des Gesetzes über den Natur- und Landschaftsschutz erlassen und haben den Zweck, die einheimischen Tiere und Pflanzen, ihre Lebensräume und deren Umgebung zu schützen. Bewirtschafter und Bewirtschafterinnen von Schutzflächen haben das Recht, mit dem Kanton einen Vertrag abzuschliessen, in dem die Bewirtschaftungsform und die Entschädigung im Detail festgelegt werden.Grundlage für die Ausscheidung sind zahlreiche Inventare von Bund und Kanton.In den Zonenplänen der Gemeinden sind die Gebiete als 'Übriges Gebiet C' ausgeschieden.
