PM2.5emissions in 2016 per inhabitant

This map shows the emissions of suspended particulate matter with a diameter of less than 2.5 µm in kg/inhabitant per municipality on the Upper Rhine.



Like PM10, PM2.5 emissions come from many sources, in particular from biomass combustion and the use of fossil fuels, in the residential and tertiary sectors and in road traffic. Some industrial processes are also sources of emissions (quarrying, woodworking, construction and public works, grain handling, chemicals, foundries, cement factories, etc.) as well as agriculture (among other things, tillage, livestock breeding and cultivation), and transport (road wear, tyres and brakes and resuspension).



In the Upper Rhine area the main sources of PM2.5 emissions are the residential and tertiary sector and road transport.
