Fens of regional importance
Fens are vestiges of earlier natural and cultural landscapes and are in sharp decline. They are home to highly-adapted symbiotic communities of plants and animals that include a large number of endangered plant and animal species. The scientific fen inventory was conducted from 1987 to 90 by a work group on behalf of the FDHA. The objects that were not included in the federal inventory after an evaluation based on area and vegetation characteristics were included in another layer.
