Stable water isotopes

Die stabilen Isotope Deuterium (²H) und Sauerstoff-18 (¹⁸O) werden als Tracer im Wasserkreislauf eingesetzt und erlauben es auch klimatische Veränderungen zu verfolgen. So führt das Nationale Klima-Beobachtungssystem GCOS Schweiz Deuterium und Sauerstoff-18 seit 2007 als offizielle Klimaparameter. Die Internationale Atomenergiebehörde IAEA koordiniert weltweit die Isotopenmessungen und betreibt hierfür das „Global Network of Isotopes in Precipitation“ GNIP und das „Global Network of Isotopes in Rivers“ GNIR. Zustand und Entwicklung der stabilen Wasserisotope in Niederschlag und Oberflächengewässern als Referenz für die Grundwasserneubildung werden in der Schweiz im Rahmen des Moduls ISOT der Nationalen Grundwasserbeobachtung NAQUA erfasst. Das Messnetz des Moduls ISOT umfasst derzeit 22 Messstellen und wird vom BAFU in enger Zusammenarbeit mit GCOS und der IAEA betrieben.

Les isotopes stables de deutérium (²H) et d’oxygène-18 (¹⁸O) sont des indicateurs du cycle de l’eau qui permettent de suivre l’évolution du climat. Ainsi, depuis 2007, le Système national d’observation du climat GCOS Suisse utilise ces isotopes comme paramètres climatiques officiels. L’Agence internationale de l’énergie atomique (AIEA) coordonne les mesures des isotopes au niveau international et exploite à cet effet les réseaux internationaux de mesure des isotopes dans les précipitations et dans les cours d’eau (Global Network of Isotopes in Precipitation, GNIP, et Global Network of Isotopes in Rivers, GNIR). L’état et l’évolution des isotopes stables dans les précipitations et les eaux de surface, utilisés comme référence pour le renouvellement des nappes phréatiques, sont déterminés en Suisse dans le cadre du module ISOT de l’Observation nationale des eaux souterraines NAQUA. Actuellement, le réseau de ce module est composé de 22 stations de mesure. Il est géré par l’OFEV en étroite collaboration avec le GCOS et l’AIEA.

Gli isotopi stabili deuterio (²H) e ossigeno-18 (¹⁸O) sono dei traccianti ideali per il ciclo idrologico e permettono di monitorare anche i cambiamenti climatici. Dal 2007, il sistema nazionale di osservazione del clima (GCOS Svizzera) li considera parametri climatici ufficiali. L’Agenzia internazionale per l’energia atomica (AIEA) coordina a livello mondiale le misurazioni isotopiche attraverso le reti GNIP (Global Network of Isotopes in Precipitation) e GNIR (Global Network of Isotopes in Rivers). In Svizzera, lo stato e l’evoluzione degli isotopi stabili delle acque nelle precipitazioni e nelle acque di superficie, come riferimento per la costituzione della falda freatica, sono rilevati nell’ambito del modulo ISOT della Rete nazionale d'osservazione delle acque sotterranee (NAQUA). La rete di misurazione del modulo ISOT conta attualmente 22 stazioni di misura ed è gestita dall’UFAM in stretta collaborazione con il GCOS e l’AIEA.

The stable isotopes deuterium (²H) and oxygen-18 (¹⁸O) are used as tracers in the water cycle and enable monitoring of climate-related changes. The Global Climate Observing System GCOS Switzerland has used deuterium and oxygen-18 as official climate parameters since 2007. The International Atomic Energy Agency IAEA coordinates the isotopic measurements globally and manages the Global Network of Isotopes in Precipitation GNIP and the Global Network of Isotopes in Rivers GNIR. Status and trend of the stable water isotopes in precipitation and surface waters are collected in Switzerland within the framework of the ISOT module of the National Groundwater Monitoring NAQUA and are used to reference groundwater recharge. The monitoring network of the ISOT module currently includes 22 monitoring sites and is operated by the FOEN in close collaboration with the GCOS and the IAEA.
