Das Schweizerische Gletschermessnetz (GLAMOS) bezweckt die langfristige Dokumentation der Gletscher-Veränderungen in der Schweiz. Die Versuchsanstalt für Wasserbau, Hydrologie und Glaziologie (VAW) und andere GLAMOS-Institutionen erheben systematisch Daten zur Entwicklung der Fläche, des Volumens, aber auch der Schneeakkumulation und Schmelze von Eis sowie der Gletscherfliessbewegung und Eistemperaturen.

Die Bestimmung der Eisdicke und die Schätzungen des gesamten Eisvolumens in den Schweizer Alpen basieren auf Georadar-Messungen kombiniert mit glaziologischen Berechnungs-Verfahren. Bis 2015 wurden im Rahmen von verschiedenen Projekten rund 1500 km Radarprofile auf Schweizer Gletschern erfasst. Danach wurden rund 1250 km Radarprofile mit einem an der ETH Zürich neu entwickelten, hubschraubergetragenen System erhoben.

Um zwischen den gemessenen Radarprofilen zu interpolieren und das Gesamteisvolumen zu berechnen, hat die ETH Zürich zwei verschieden, unabhängige Algorithmen entwickelt, die sich auf die Prinzipien des Eisfliessens stützen. Aus den bis 2020 inzwischen vorliegenden Eisdickenmessungen und der Kenntnis der Gletscherflächen und Oberflächentopographie konnte so schliesslich die flächendeckende Verteilung der Eisdicke aller Gletscher ermittelt werden. Daraus wurde zudem auch die Topographie des Gletscherbettes abgeleitet.

Le réseau des relevés glaciologiques suisse (GLAMOS) a pour but l’étude à long terme des changements des glaciers dans les Alpes suisses. Le Versuchsanstalt für Wasserbau, Hydrologie und Glaziologie (VAW) et d'autres institutions de GLAMOS collectent des données systématiquement sur la variation de la longueur, le volume de glace, l'accumulation et la fonte de la neige, ainsi que sur le mouvement de surface des glaciers et la température de la glace.

La détermination de l'épaisseur de la glace et les estimations du volume total de glace dans les Alpes suisses sont basées sur des mesures par géoradar combinées à des méthodes de calcul glaciologique. Jusqu’en 2015, environ 1500 km de profils par géoradar des glaciers suisses ont été récoltés dans le cadre de différents projets. Par la suite, environ 1250 km profils par géoradar supplémentaires ont été collectés à l'aide d'un système héliporté, développé dernièrement par l'EPFZ.

Pour réaliser une interpolation des profils radar et calculer le volume total de glace, l'EPFZ a développé deux algorithmes différents et indépendants basés sur les principes de l'écoulement de la glace. En se basant sur les mesures de l'épaisseur de la glace jusqu’en 2020 et sur la connaissance des surfaces des glaciers et de la topographie du terrain, il a finalement été possible de déterminer la répartition de l'épaisseur de la glace de l'ensemble des glaciers. La topographie du lit du glacier en a également été dérivée.

Glacier Monitoring in Switzerland (GLAMOS) aims to document glacier changes in Switzerland in the long term. The Laboratory of Hydraulics, Hydrology and Glaciology (VAW) and other GLAMOS institutions systematically collect data not only on development of surface area and volume, but also on snow accumulation, melting of ice, glacier flow and ice temperatures. Determining the ice thickness and estimating the total ice volume in the Swiss Alps are based on georadar measurements combined with glaciological calculation methods. By 2015, around 1,500 km of georadar profiles had been recorded on Swiss glaciers as part of various projects. Thereafter, around 1,250 km of georadar profiles were acquired using a new helicopter-borne system developed at ETH Zurich. To interpolate between the measured georadar profiles and to calculate the total ice volume, ETH Zurich developed two different, independent algorithms based on the principles of ice flow. From the ice thickness measurements available up to 2020 and the knowledge of the glacier areas and surface topography, it was finally possible to determine the distribution of the ice thickness of all glaciers nationwide. In addition, the results allowed the topography of the glacier beds to be derived.

La rete di monitoraggio dei ghiacciai svizzeri (GLAMOS) mira a documentare a lungo termine i cambiamenti dei ghiacciai in Svizzera. Il Laboratorio di Idraulica, Idrologia e Glaciologia (VAW) e altre istituzioni della GLAMOS raccolgono sistematicamente dati sullo sviluppo della superficie, del volume, ma anche dell'accumulo di neve e dello scioglimento dei ghiacci, così come dil flusso e le temperature del ghiaccio. La determinazione dello spessore e le stime del volume totale del ghiaccio nelle Alpi svizzere si basano su misure georadar combinate con metodi di calcolo glaciologico. Fino al 2015, sono stati registrati circa 1500 km di profili radar sui ghiacciai svizzeri nell'ambito di vari progetti. In seguito, circa 1250 km di profili radar sono stati raccolti utilizzando un nuovo sistema sviluppato presso il Politecnico federale di Zurigo montato a bordo di un elicottero. Per interpolare i profili radar misurati e calcolare il volume totale del ghiaccio, il Politecnico di Zurigo ha sviluppato due diversi algoritmi indipendenti basati sui principi del flusso di ghiaccio. Dalle misurazioni dello spessore del ghiaccio ora disponibili fino al 2020 e dalla conoscenza delle aree dei ghiacciai e della topografia della superficie, è stato finalmente possibile determinare la distribuzione capillare dello spessore di tutti i ghiacciai. Da quest'ultima è stata derivata anche la topografia del letto del ghiacciaio.

Bis 2015 wurden im Rahmen von verschiedenen Projekten rund 1500 km Radarprofile auf Schweizer Gletschern erfasst. Danach wurden im Rahmen des Projekts «Swiss Competence Center for Energy Research – Supply of Electricity» (SCCER-SoE) und mit finanzieller Unterstützung der Geophysikalischen Kommission (SGPK) der Schweizerischen Akademie der Naturwissenschaften (SCNAT) zusätzlich rund 1250 km Radarprofile mit einem an der ETH Zürich neu entwickelten, hubschraubergetragenen System erhoben.

Jusqu’en 2015, environ 1500 km de profils par géoradar des glaciers suisses ont été récoltés dans le cadre de différents projets. Par la suite, dans le cadre du projet du « Centre de compétence suisse pour la recherche énergétique - Approvisionnement en électricité » (SCCER-SoE) et avec le soutien financier de la Commission suisse de géophysique (SGPK) de l'Académie suisse des sciences naturelles (SCNAT), environ 1250 km profils par géoradar supplémentaires ont été collectés à l'aide d'un système héliporté, développé dernièrement par l'EPFZ.
