Inventory of historical routes in Switzerland (IHR), objects of regional and local importance (BE)
Historical routes are paths from previous eras, which can be traced through historical documents and can sometimes also be detected because of their traditional appearance in the terrain. They are comprehensively recorded and described in detail in the inventory of historical routes in Switzerland (IHR). The particularly valuable elements of this heritage are protected. The historical importance of communication (the value of a connection) and the extent to which an object is made of traditional building materials (for example, natural road surfaces, paving, objects used to mark pathways such as dry stone walls or wooden fences, etc.) are the central assessment criteria. The objects are classified according to their level of significance, depending on their present condition and former function: 1. The Federal Inventory of Historic Swiss Transport Routes includes objects of national importance with great substance, or with substance; these objects enjoy complete protection under the Federal Act on the Protection of Nature and Cultural Heritage (NCHA). 2. The duty to take special consideration also applies to objects of regional and local importance. Historical routes are subject to different regulations depending on their category. This is due to different legally binding effects. • For objects of national importance with great substance or with substance, the protection is determined by the provisions of the Ordinance on the Federal Inventory of Historic Swiss Transport Routes (ITRO). The objects must be completely preserved or at least be protected as much as possible. • For objects of regional or local importance, the protection is determined by the general provisions of the Federal Act on the Protection of Nature and Cultural Heritage (NCHA) or in accordance with Article 10 of the Building Act of the Canton of Bern. These objects require a certain degree of consideration.
