Die Geomorphologie umfasst alle diejenigen Prozesse, welche die Landoberfläche z.B. durch die Wirkung von Wasser (Flüsse, Bäche; Prozessbereich fluvial oder karstisch), Eis (Gletscher, Permafrost; glazi-al, periglazial), Wind (äolisch) und unter dem Einfluss der Schwerkraft (z.B. Sackungen, Bergstürze; denudativ, gravitativ) in typischer Weise auszuformen und dynamisch umzugestalten vermögen. Datenquelle: Atlas der Schweiz, Blatt 8, Geomorphologie (1975)

La géomorphologie comprend tous les processus susceptibles de modeler dynamiquement la surface de la terre, à travers l'action de l'eau (rivières, ruisseau: domaine morphogénétique fluviatile, ou dissolution: domaine karstique), de la glace (glacier, permafrost: domaines glaciaire et périglaciaire), du vent (domaine éolien) et sous l'influence de la gravité (p.ex. glissements, éboulements: domaines denudatif et gravitaire). La geomorfologia comprende tutti i processi in grado di modellare dinamicamente la superficie terrestre. Esempi di processi possono essere l'azione dell'acqua (fiumi, torrenti, settore morfogenetico fluviale o carsico), del ghiaccio (ghiacciai, permafrost: dominio glaciale o periglaciale), del vento (eolico) e della gravità (p.es. cedimenti, frane di tipo denudativo, o gravitativo). Geomorphology includes all of the processes capable of typically shaping and dynamically reshaping the ground surface, e.g. through the effects of water (rivers, streams: fluvial and karst processes), ice (glaciers, permafrost: glacial and periglacial processes), wind (aeolian processes) and under the influence of gravity (e.g. sackung, landslides: denudation and gravitation processes).
