Road and Railway Traffic Noise Exposure (Dwellings)
The dataset contains the noise exposure from road and railway traffic per dwelling for the year 2021.
For each dwelling, the highest noise exposure (Leq) occurring at the façade is recorded for various rating periods (day, evening, night, Day-Evening-Night, Day-Night).
The dwellings can be assigned to their respective floor, but their exact position (street-facing or away from the street) is unknown. Therefore, all dwellings on the same floor are assigned the same highest noise level. Exceptions are possible for dwellings that extend across multiple floors.
The dataset also includes 2D floor plans enriched with information (including the Federal Building Identifier EGID and the Federal Dwelling Identifier EWID) from the Federal Register of Buildings and Dwellings (RegBL).
The data are based on the nationwide noise calculation model sonBASE 2021 of the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN). For road traffic, the calculations draw on traffic figures from the National Passenger Transport Model (NPTM 2021), and for railway traffic on the Emission Cadastre 2021 (EC 2021). The data are intended exclusively for statistical information at national and regional level and are not legally binding. Binding information on noise exposure and noise abatement is provided by the respective enforcement authorities: for national roads by the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO), for main and other roads by the cantonal enforcement authorities, and for railway traffic by the Federal Office of Transport (FOT).
